Center for Advanced Computational Technologies

The Center for Advanced Computational Technologies (CACT) (old HPCC) of “Istituto Superiore di Formazione Universitaria” (ISUFI) at University of Lecce, is build up to promote research and interdisciplinary development in high-computing power demanding applications.

The center is under the direction of Prof. Giovanni Aloisio and it is actually involved in national and international research activity and development.
The Center belongs as International Affiliate, of the US/National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructures (NPACI), (http://www.npaci.edu).

The main computational resource of the Center is the Compaq Alpha Server SC, called Sierra, with four ES40 nodes connected with a QSW switch. The Sierra is described below:

  • Four  SMP EV67 CPUs (667 MHz) per Node --> 16 CPUs
  • 2 GB per Node  -->8 Gbytes Global Memory)
  • 1 QSW low latency Switch
  • 1 RAID Array 8000 Fibre Channel (163.8 GB)
  • Compaq Tru64 Unix
  • Alpha Server SC V2.5 Cluster File System (CFS)
  • QSW Resource Management System (RMS)
  • Development & Management Tools
  • Scientific & Parallel Libraries
  • Message Passing Libraries
  • C++, Fortran77, Fortran 90, Fortran 95 Compilers
  • High Performance Fortran
  • Compaq MPI and Open MPI
